How we came up with Vondenberg and the names for our beloved boxers After being asked numerous times this same question. I figured it was was time to make a web site with just that answer.
It's very simple but takes some explanation. I'm a third generation to have the privilege of owning the boxer breed. My grandmother had the first boxer and it was named Norman who was a fawn. While growing up my family decided it was time to have a Boxer. My brother wanted to continue on with tradition but with a twist so our boxer was named Major Norman Von Klissenger also a fawn.
We also had one of Norman's pups after my step sister moved and was unable to take her with her. So she was already named Morgan's Amy Jo. She was a classic fawn and the spitting image of her father, and the LOVE of my life.
Now comes my part. I knew I that the Boxer breed would be the only breed for me, and I had to carry on with tradition but with a more added twist I couldn't let my brother have the best of me. I knew I couldn't use the name of Norman cause my mother was hoping very soon to get another Norman of her own. I also wanted to continue the German part of the name that my brother had started. I liked the Von a lot. After searching and searching, I remembered we were stationed at Vandenberg. I searched a little longer and found a German name of Vondenberg. This I decided would be my kennel name it sounded so prestigious.
So I went with carrying on the military part. I wanted to up the anti a little, I decided my first boxer would have the title of Colonel with a German first name. What I came up with was Colonel Friederick Vondenberg who is fawn.
Next I felt the need to carry on with the military title and only going up the ladder was the way to go. My next boxer had to have the title of Brigadier but I didn't like the way it looked when spelled so I changed it to Brigadiar. When I went to looking for my next boxer I knew once again it had to be a fawn, (but with twist) it had to be flashy this time. I just had to come up with a good strong name to go in the middle, finally I came up with Winston. So he became to be known as Brigadiar Winston Vondenberg.
Our newest addition to the Vondenberg Kennel is Vondenberg's G.I. Amiie Jo. As you can tell from her title I have carried on with the military tradition. Amiie Jo is also named after my never forgotten Amy Jo. Amiie is the most precious beautiful flashy fawn female. :o) I had a name picked for the longest time for our newest addition. BUT Amiie came to us, the name I had picked out just didn't fit right. Please note........So being THE typical female THAT I am, I can change my mind and I did. LOL

Gaddis' Boxers
My mother (Barbara Pruitt) married a wonderful man of German decent, he is Levi Gaddis. So the kennel name could be no other seeing how Boxers originated from Germany it was very fitting to use Gaddis.
Mom wanted to go all out on the German name. She has, as long as I have known her, always wanted a female named Heidi. Eight and a half years ago she finally got her wish. She found the cutest little classic fawn female and named her Gaddis' Freulein Heidi.
Four years later, Mom yearned for having another. Having another fawn was all she could think about. She found the sweetest semi-flashy fawn male and just knew she had to carry on with TRADITION. He was properly named Gaddis' Major Norman (named after the previous name sakes).
Last spring, Mom had that Boxer Fever again. She wanted another female as just two boxers is never enough. After what seemed like an eternity and many hours of her daughter (ME) searching for breeders on the Boxer Breeders site. We finally were able to get her connected with Cindy Holmes of Glory Boxers in northern Indiana in the fall of '98. Mom laid eyes on a little classic fawn and that is all it took. She knew that this little girl was meant to be with her. She of course went with German names again, and she had already had a name for this little girl for 4 years, and she was named Gaddis' Madchen Gretchen.
